Cluster Summary

The Cluster Summary panel of the management interface shows the health and major components of a TS7700 Cluster. This panel can also show details for any cluster in the grid, attached library, or cache expansion frame.

Cluster name
Click the cluster name above the cluster image to display the health and other details of the accessing cluster, including but not limited to the following items: name, family association, model, and microcode level. For more information, see Cluster health and details.Management interface with a focus on the cluster name and a hover over menu that displays the cluster details.
View other clusters in the grid
Click a circle selector or an arrow below the large cluster image to display another cluster in the grid.
Part of the large cluster image. Mouse pointers emphasize circle selectors and arrow buttons in that area.
Investigate hardware errors
On the large cluster image, click a highlighted component that shows an error or warning icon. Use the details that are displayed to investigate a degraded or failing component. For more information, see Cluster components and alerts.

The Health field represents overall cache drawer health. This field can indicate that the battery, fan, DDM, or other cache drawer component might have failed or is in a degraded condition.

The Disk Health field represents only DDM-related issues. This field can indicate that one or more DDMs might have failed or is in a degraded condition.

Investigate port errors
Click the reverse view arrow at the lower right corner of the large cluster image to display port details and health. Degraded or failing ports are highlighted and identified by error or warning icons. For more information, see Port details and health.

Port details and health view. Degraded ports display error icons. A mouse pointer hovers over one such port. Details and health display in a pop-up window.
Cache capacity tube
Hover over the cache capacity tube to the left of the large cluster image to check cache capacity allocations. For more information, see Cache capacity tube.
The cache capacity tube. A mouse pointer hovers over an area of the tube. A pop-up window displays cache allocation information.
Identify throttling
Hover over the throttling icon that is displayed beneath the cluster name to identify any throttling behavior. This icon is only displayed if throttling behavior is occurring on the selected cluster.
Throttling icon that is shown beneath the cluster name. A mouse pointer hovers over the icon. A pop-up window displays details about throttling activity.
Expansion frame
Click the small image of an expansion frame at the top of the Cluster Summary page to verify and investigate the health of that attached expansion frame. For more information, see Expansion frame details and health. The expansion frame image is only displayed if the selected cluster attaches to one or more expansion frames.

Tape library
Click the small image of a tape library at the top of the Cluster Summary page to verify and investigate the health of that attached library. For more information, see Library details and health. The tape library image is only displayed if the selected cluster is attached to a library.

Physical Cache
Click Physical Cache at the bottom of the Cluster Summary panel to display the Cache Utilization summary for the cluster. For more information, see:
Copy Queues
Refer to Copy Queues at the bottom of the Cluster Summary panel to see volume and count information for a cluster’s incoming copy queue. For more information, see Copy queue.
Health
Refer to Health at the bottom of the Cluster Summary panel to see the health of the cluster as a whole. Possible values include the following:
  • Normal
  • Warning or Degraded
  • Impact
  • Critical or Serious/Error
  • Service
  • Service Prep
  • Unknown (see note)
If the health is not Normal, an X icon displays next to the Health button. Hover over the icon to view recent events that are associated with the cluster.
Note: When someone performs a service login to the TS7700, the health check is disabled until shortly after the service representative logs out or until eight hours have elapsed, whichever happens first. During this time, the management interface might display a health status of Unknown.
Table 1. Actions available from the Cluster Summary panel
To... Do this:
Modify the cluster identification Select Modify Cluster Identification from the Actions menu.
Change the cluster state Select Cluster States from the Actions menu.
Vary devices online for the cluster Select Vary Devices Online from the Actions menu.
Note: A blue informational icon is shown on the lower left corner of the cluster image if the cluster's devices need to be varied online. This menu option is available only if Control Unit Initiated Reconfiguration (CUIR) is enabled by a LI REQ command and the Automatic Vary Devices Online (AONLINE) notification is disabled.
Regenerate the disk cache key Select Regenerate key from the Actions > Encryption menu path. After completion, the procedure displays a confirmation dialog with a time stamp of the last time that the key was generated. If the function fails, contact your IBM service representative.
Note: The option is only available when external disk encryption is enabled.
Download a file containing the cluster information Select the Download System Summary file icon next to the Actions menu. The following information is contained in the file:
  • Distributed library sequence number
  • Cluster name
  • Family
  • Model
  • Microcode level
  • Description
  • Disk Encryption
  • Key creation date (see note)
  • vtd_exec
