Camera installation
Each Dx5, Lx5, S25 frame in the TS4500 have areas within the inside ceiling of the library where you can mount cameras for observing the library.
A camera system is the responsibility of the customer
IBM designs and manufactures equipment to internal and external standards that require certain environments for reliable operation. Because IBM does not test any equipment for compatibility with camera systems, IBM does not make camera compatibility claims of any kind. Also IBM does not provide recommendations on camera systems. When you are deciding whether to implement camera equipment, refer to local and national standards and regulations.
The customer is responsible to install and set up any cameras and any additional equipment that is required to connect to the cameras, not IBM Service personnel.
Choosing a camera system
When you are choosing cameras to install with the tape library, the recommended type of camera is a 'Mini POE IP camera'. This style of camera has a small form factor for fitting within the possible mounting spots and typically signal and power is transmitted over a single cable.
Prerequisites
- Certified to IEC or UL 60950-1, IEC/UL 60065, or IEC/UL 62368-1 by an accredited safety agency.
- Rated for flammability UL 94 V-1 or better.
- Cables of sufficient length to connect to the cameras. The cables must have an accredited safety agency mark such as UL, CSA, VDE, etc... printed on the cable jacket. Or the cables must have a UL VW-1 flammability rating that is printed on the jacket.
- Mounting brackets or features, preferably one that uses an M4 screw.
Attachment of cameras and their cabling within a library frame
Cameras and their cables can be installed in the region that is shown in Figure 1. The area is a triangular section that is 81 mm (3.2 inches) wide by 140 mm (5.5 inches) long. All mount camera equipment must stay within the area of the triangle section as to not interfere with library function.

The TS4500 does not have any specific hardware or feature codes for mounting cameras within a frame. You can mount the camera inside the frame ceiling or on the firewall, by using the M4 screws that are already within the library.
Mounting on the ceiling
Unscrew one of the M4 screws from the top of the library, outside the frame. Using this screw, a small camera can be mounted to the same hole within the library, which is shown in Figure 2. If you are concerned about the screw migrating over time, supplement this mounting position with a locking nut on the outside of the library.

Mounting on the Firewall
Using a similar method, one of the M4 screws on the firewall can be repurposed for mounting a camera. Refer to Figure 3 for these screws.

Cable Routing
Use the existing cable management features of the frame to keep cabling out of the accessor space: Refer to Figure 4. Route any camera cables through the cable port in the firewall before you connect them to any host or server.
