Scheduling projects with Gantt Scheduler

In IBM® TRIRIGA®, the Gantt scheduler is the graphical representation of tasks that are grouped in such a way that they allow the completion of a project. The Gantt scheduler is used to create projects for building construction, store opening, software development, or any other type of use. These types of charts (or schedulers) allow tasks to be created for every step and milestone of the project. With the ability to create dependencies, projects within projects, and lead/lag start times, among others, projects can be created and tracked through every step and process through time.

About this task

In the Schedule tab of a project, when you use the Project Tasks Gantt section, you may notice that the start and end dates in the Gantt section may not match the dates in the Project Tasks query section below the Gantt section. The date information in the Gantt section follows different rules that override the date information in the tasks. Meanwhile, the date information in the Project Tasks query section is based on calculations according to the planned start of the project. If there are no links between tasks, then all tasks in the Gantt section are moved to the planned start time. If a link is created between "Task 1" and "Task 2", then the start of "Task 2" is based on the calculation of the start date, plus duration, plus any calendar and working hours. When the Save action on the Gantt section is selected, the information is persisted to the actual tasks.

It is not possible to edit the planned start of a task and display that change in the Gantt section. It is not the purpose of the Gantt section to display the tasks according to the information in the tasks. The purpose of the Gantt section is to align the tasks to the calendar according to the planned dates, calendar, working hours, and duration of the project.
