The
IBM® System Storage® TS7650G ProtecTIER® Deduplication
Gateway (
TS7650G) is available
in two configurations:
- Stand-alone (VTL, OpenStorage, and FSI)
- Clustered (VTL and OpenStorage)
The purchase of the stand-alone
gateway includes the following hardware and software:
- One gateway server (IBM machine
type and model 3958 DD5)
- One licensed, preinstalled copy of Red Hat Linux Advanced Platform
(version x86_64 or EM64T)
- One licensed, preinstalled copy of IBM ProtecTIER
The purchase of the clustered gateway
includes the following hardware and software:
- Two gateway servers (IBM machine
type and model 3958 DD5)
- The lower server of the two in the frame is Server A
- The upper server of the two in the frame is Server B
- One Cluster Connection Kit (Feature Code 3437) which includes
the following cables:
- One Western Telematic, Inc. network power switch and accompanying
cables
- Two 1 Gb Ethernet switches and accompanying cables
- Two licensed, preinstalled copies of Red Hat Linux Advanced Platform
(version x86_64 or EM64T)
- Two licensed, preinstalled copies of IBM ProtecTIER
The following cluster server combinations are supported:
- Two 3958 DD5 servers
- One 3958 DD5 server
and one 3958 DD4 server
- One 3958 DD5 server
and one 3958 DD3 server
- One 3958 DD5 server
and one 3958 DD1 server (by RPQ only)
IBM supports two clustered pairs of TS7650 Gateway servers in
a single frame.
For either configuration of the TS7650G to be fully
functional, more hardware components are required. These components
are purchased separately. They must be installed and configured at
the customer site before TS7650G installation
begins (except for the IBM TSSC and TSSC Ethernet switch).
Hardware components that are suitable for use include:
- Stand-alone gateway
- One IBM DS4700, DS5000, DS8000®, or XIV® disk controller
- Six IBM EXP810 disk expansion
modules or equivalents
- One IBM TS3000 System Console (TSSC) and Ethernet
switch (Feature Code 2732)
- Two or more 25-m LC/LC Fibre Channel cables (Feature Code 6025)
- Clustered Gateway
- Two IBM DS4700, DS5000, DS8000, or XIV disk controllers
- 12 IBM EXP810 disk expansion
modules or equivalents
- One TSSC and
Ethernet switch (Feature Code 2732)
- Two or more 25M LC/LC Fibre Channel cables (Feature Code 6025)
- Two 36u frames
Note: The hardware that the customer purchases might differ from the
listed components.
Important: This
document references IBM 4.8 TB Fibre Channel Disk Controllers and
IBM 7.2 TB Fibre Channel Disk Expansion Units in many of the hardware
installation figures, examples, and procedures.
In addition to the IBM DS4700 disk controllers
and expansion units, the TS7650G also supports the DS5000 disk controller,
the DS8000 disk controller,
Storwize V7000 Storage Controller and the XIV disk controller, as well as various non-IBM
storage solutions. If the customer has elected to use disk storage
components other than the IBM disk controllers and expansion units
mentioned above, the figures, examples, and procedures in this document
will not apply to the configuration on which you are working. Therefore,
it is suggested that you determine the make and model of the disk
storage components in use and, if necessary, obtain the related product
documentation before you begin installation of the gateway.
The RAS code no longer sends call home packages
for problems with any of the disk storage products attached to the
gateway including DS4700, DS5000, DS8000,
Storwize V7000, and XIV.
