Enabling RAS in the TS7650 Appliance, ProtecTIER V3.3.6

This procedure describes how to configure ProtecTIER® RAS on the server or servers in both stand-alone and clustered configurations.

Before you begin

During the installation, you are prompted to enter the system and customer contact information as listed. You need the information for each server to be configured. Collect the necessary information before you start the installation so that it is readily available when needed. This information can be found on the completed Company Information and IP address worksheets. See Company information worksheet for details about the information which you must enter.

About this task

Note: Enabling and configuring RAS is an offline procedure; respond yes when prompted to stop VTFD services. The services normally restart automatically upon completion of RAS configuration, but this procedure includes steps to verify the restart and, if required, to restart the services manually.
Note: If the TSSC is not installed in the AP1 frame, you must establish a connection to each server before you can complete the steps for that server. For more information, see Configuring the TSSC for use with the TS7650 Appliance, ProtecTIER V3.3.6.

Perform the steps in this task to configure ProtecTIER RAS on the server or servers in stand-alone and clustered configurations.

Procedure

Perform the following steps to enable RAS.

  1. Establish a connection to Server A (for stand-alone configurations, the only server in the frame). To do so:
    1. Attach a USB keyboard to any open USB port on the back of the server.
    2. Attach a graphics-capable monitor to the video port on the back of the server.
Note: If you are unable to connect to the server by using the procedure in step 1, see Making a server connection through the IMM on the TS7650 Appliance, ProtecTIER V3.3.6 for instructions on connecting to the server by using the IMM in the server and your service notebook or the TSSC.
  2. At the command line, log in with the ID ptconfig and the password ptconfig.
Note: During the boot cycle, the ProtecTIER file systems are mounted. If the message: Running... displays, press Enter to proceed to the login prompt.
  3. At the command line, type menu and press Enter. The ProtecTIER Service menu displays.

A Node in a frame is assigned a unique IP address with the same frame prefix.
Please use the same frame number for each new node in the cluster.
    Please enter < Frame number of this cluster> (10, 20, 30 ... up to 240) :

  7. Type the frame number of the cluster. If you receive an error that the frame range number entered is already in use, specify a different range in an increment of 10. For example, if frame range 20 is already in use, try frame range 30. For clustered configurations, use the same frame (location) number for both nodes when clustered together in the same frame.
Note: If you are setting the only node in a stand-alone configuration, simply type the frame number of the node.
The system prompts for confirmation of the frame range for the frame number you entered:

You entered a frame range 'XX-XX'. Please confirm, (y/n): y

  8. Type yes and press Enter. The system displays the following prompt:

Is this node the second node of a dual cluster in frame 240, (y/n) ?

  9. If you are setting the only node in a stand-alone configuration, or if you are setting the primary node (Server A) in a clustered configuration, answer No. If you are setting the second node (Server B) in a clustered configuration, answer Yes. The system displays the following output:
