This workspace belongs to the VMware CPU Utilization workspace
group. It provides information about the overall CPU utilization of
your physical server where virtual machines are installed.
You can determine whether physical server CPU utilization
is trending up or down, view forecasts, and predict when warning or
critical thresholds are reached.
When CPU use for the physical
server on which virtual machines are installed is at or above 80 percent,
applications on the system can become slow or stop responding completely.
Use this workspace to view warning and critical threshold levels and
monitor your servers. CPU use. The data that the monitoring agent
gathers from a system is used to create forecasts for 7, 30, and 90
days to help you identify which systems require attention, and when
systems are likely to reach a predetermined threshold.
The predefined Physical
Server CPU Utilization Forecast Overview workspace provides
different table views that enable you to view warning and critical
threshold levels and forecasts for every server. Each column in each
table displays output attribute information:
- Physical Server CPU Utilization Forecast Overview
- This table displays forecast summary information for the monitored
systems. It contains the following columns:
- VM Agent Node, indicating the monitoring
agent responsible for monitoring the Virtual Center or the ESX server
to which the forecast applies. An upward arrow indicates an upward
trend; a downward arrow indicates a downward trend. A horizontal arrow
indicates that the trend is not rising and not falling.
- Server Name, indicating the physical server
on which the virtual machine is installed and to which the forecast
applies.
- Confidence, indicating the confidence in
the predicted trend, presented as a percentage, 0-100%. Systems for
which the Confidence is less than 20% are displayed
in red.
- Strength, indicating the strength of the
trend based on a combination of the Confidence and Number
of Samples. Strength is a value
of 1 (weak), 2 (moderate), or 3 (strong). Systems for which the Strength equals
1 (weak) are displayed in red.
- Number of Samples, indicating the number
of data points used as input for the Least Squares Regression calculation
to predict the trend of the data.
- Time To Warning Threshold, which displays
the number of days until the warning threshold for the monitored system
is reached. Systems with less than seven days until the warning threshold
is reached are displayed in yellow. If a threshold is zero, either
the threshold has been passed, or it is beyond the scope of the calculation.
Thresholds with a value of zero are not highlighted. The threshold
value is determined by the associated task and the notification period
is determined by the associated situation.
- Time To Critical Threshold, which displays
the number of days until the critical threshold for the monitored
system is reached. Systems with less than seven days until the critical
threshold is reached are displayed in red. If a threshold is zero,
either the threshold has been passed, it will not be reached, or it
is beyond the scope of the calculation. Thresholds with a value of
zero are not highlighted. The threshold value is determined by the
associated task and the notification period is determined by the associated
situation.

the CPU usage, ESX Server Monitoring & Events showing
the overall operating state of the server, and VMware VI
Agent Monitoring displaying the high-level views of the
ESX servers that are being monitored by the agent.
- 7 Day, 30 Day, 90 Day Forecast
- These tables present forecast calculations for the time periods
indicated. Each row in the table contains forecast results for a given
resource, and includesVM Agent Node, Server
Name, and Data. The information
in the Data column is expressed in percentage
value of overall CPU utilization, and it shows the predicted value
of the forecast after 7, 30, or 90 days respectively.
