Virtual machine (cloud)
A virtual machine (VM) is a software emulation of a physical machine, including OS, virtual memory and CPUs, and network ports. VMs host applications, or they provide resources to container platforms. Turbonomic discovers virtual machines through public cloud targets.
Container platform nodes are also represented as virtual machines in the Turbonomic supply chain. For details, see this topic.

Cloud VM actions
Turbonomic supports the following actions:
-
Scale
Change the VM instance to use a different instance type or tier to optimize performance and costs.
For details, see the following topics:
-
Discount-related actions
If you have a high percentage of on-demand VMs, you can reduce your monthly costs by increasing RI or Savings Plans coverage. To increase coverage, Turbonomic recommends scaling VMs to instance types that have existing capacity.
-
Suspend
Suspend an underutilized VM as a cost-saving measure.
For details, see Suspend actions for cloud VMs.
-
Stop and start (also known as parking actions)
Stop an idle VM temporarily as a cost-saving measure, and then start it at a later time.
