Container platform cluster (Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift cluster)
A container platform cluster is a Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift cluster that manages containerized workloads. Turbonomic discovers these clusters through the Kubeturbo agent that you deployed as a container platform target.
Turbonomic also discovers Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters through Azure service principal targets and presents them as container platform clusters in the supply chain. For more information, see Container platform cluster (AKS cluster).
When you deploy the Kubeturbo agent to a Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift cluster, Turbonomic discovers container entities in the cluster, including the containers, container pods, container specs, workload controllers, namespaces, and nodes (virtual machines) that make up the cluster. It also discovers the volumes that provide storage resources to nodes.
Turbonomic discovers node pools in a cluster but does not present them as node pool entities in the supply chain. To view the discovered node pools, navigate to the Search page, click the Groups category, and then search for node pools. When you set the scope to a node pool, the supply chain shows the cluster entities that make up and support the node pool.
Actions for all cluster entities are aggregated at the container platform cluster level to give you full visibility into the actions that impact the health of your cluster.
GitOps integration
Turbonomic integrates with Git-based software through Argo CD, a GitOps continuous delivery tool that manages ArgoCD Application resources using Custom Resources (CRs). With this integration, Turbonomic can identify the container platform cluster resources managed by Argo CD, and then execute resize actions against the Git-based version control software serving as Argo CD's 'source of truth'. Argo CD completes the action by synchronizing changes onto the running environment.
For detailed integration instructions, see this topic.
Monitored resources
Turbonomic monitors resources for the containers, pods, nodes (VMs), and volumes in a cluster.
Actions
None
Turbonomic does not recommend actions for a container platform cluster. Instead, it recommends actions for the containers, pods, nodes (VMs), and volumes in the cluster. Turbonomic shows all of these actions when you scope to a container platform cluster and view the Pending Actions chart.
Cluster health
To assess the health of each cluster, see the Top Container Platform Clusters chart in the Home page's Containers tab or in the predefined Container Platform Dashboard.
For each cluster, the chart shows the sum of resources used by containers and the underlying nodes. Click a number in the Actions column to see a list of pending actions.
The Top Namespaces chart shows the namespaces that use the most cluster resources. You can use the data in the chart for showback analysis.
