Feature updates and notices
Frequent changes to the product or third-party targets require that some features are updated, deprecated, removed, or no longer supported. See the following sections for more information about these features.
Updates
The updates that are listed here will be made in the noted version. Consider the details and recommended actions that are provided.
| Feature | Status | Details and recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| Azure MCA billing data in a non-USD currency | Updated |
Recent updates to Turbonomic include changes to resolve a currency symbol mismatch that affected billing data for MCA customers billed in non-USD currencies. After updating from version 8.17.5 or earlier to 8.17.6 or later, customers may experience delayed billing data discovery and action generation. In some cases, stale actions may persist for 2 to 3 days while Turbonomic processes and reconciles the updated billing data. Note that this behavior is typically minimal and may not be noticeable in most environments. |
| Maximum utilization settings for container platform nodes | Disabled in version 8.17.6 |
Starting with version 8.17.6, the following container platform node constraints are temporarily disabled:
These settings will be re-enabled in a future release, along with improvements to their functionality. Note that for versions 8.16.5 to 8.17.5, it is highly recommended to reduce the node vCPU and vMem request values from 90% to 70% to prevent pod move failures. |
| Turbonomic SaaS instances deployed to the AWS Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region | Updated |
Starting with version 8.17.5, an additional cluster was introduced in the AWS Asia Pacific (Tokyo) region. The URLs for the new cluster are as follows:
If the subdomain URL for your Turbonomic SaaS instance is |
| Google Cloud permissions | Updated |
Starting with version 8.17.5 , the following Google Cloud permissions were removed from the documentation because they are no longer required.
In version 8.17.3, the Google Cloud permissions listed in the documentation were updated to include descriptions. These descriptions explain how Turbonomic targets use the permissions to discover and optimize your workloads. For more information, see Reference: Google Cloud permissions. |
| AWS permissions | Updated |
Starting with version 8.17.4, the following AWS permissions were added to the documentation. These permissions are required to scale virtual machines in Auto Scaling Groups.
In version 8.17.3, the AWS permissions listed in the documentation were updated to include descriptions. These descriptions explain how Turbonomic targets use the permissions to discover and optimize your workloads. For more information, see Reference: AWS permissions. |
| Virtual volume dependency on uptime for cost calculations | Added in version 8.17.4 | Cloud virtual volume documentation is now available to help you understand how cost is calculated when generating actions. For more information, see Cloud virtual volume uptime. |
| NFS enhancements to Turbonomic operator for Kubernetes deployments | Documentation updated in version 8.17.3 |
Turbonomic operator now supports Network File System (NFS) storage, introducing flexibility to control storage preferences using the Custom Resource (CR). NFS storage is a supported option for Turbonomic deployed in OpenShift, Azure AKS, Amazon EKS, and Google Cloud GKE. |
| Backup and restore for Turbonomic deployments | Added in version 8.17.3 | With the added documentation enhancements, create a backup of your Turbonomic deployment along with steps on how to restore the deployment in an event of a failure or a disaster. For more information, see Backing up and restoring Turbonomic. |
| Upgrade Kubernetes deployment in OVA deployment | Added in version 8.17.3 | With this enhancement, you can now upgrade Kubernetes deployment running inside Turbonomic OVA deployment. For more information, see Upgrading Kubernetes deployment inside OVA. |
|
VMware Horizon target |
Target and documentation restored with version 8.17.2 |
The VMware Horizon target and related documentation are restored with version 8.17.2. This target was removed previously beginning with version 8.15.5. If you deleted a Horizon target following the removal announcement in version 8.15.5, you can add the target back from the Target configuration page in the UI. |

| Buy RI actions | Disabled in version 8.14.5 |
Buy RI actions are disabled in the real-time market and are no longer displayed in the Action Center. These actions will be reintroduced in a future release along with improvements to the existing analysis. You can run Buy VM Reservations plans to view new Buy RI actions. |
| Scaling target utilization settings for on-prem VMs | Updated in version 8.14.4 | You can now configure the Scaling target vCPU Utilization and Scaling target vMem Utilization settings in on-prem VM policies to control the resize actions that Turbonomic generates. Previously, you could configure these settings only in cloud VM policies. As part of this update, the default setting for on prem Scaling target vMem Utilization is changed from 70% to 90%. For more information, see Introducing Scaling Target Utilization setting for On-prem VMs on IBM Community. |
| Prometheus target | Updated in 8.12.4 | Starting with version 8.12.4, new deployments of Prometurbo automatically add Prometheus targets to the Observability category.
Prometurbo deployments before version 8.12.4 automatically added Data Ingestion Framework (Prometheus) targets to the Custom category. After you update to version 8.12.4 or later, existing Data Ingestion Framework (Prometheus) targets are cloned and the clones are then added to the Observability category. The original targets remain in the Custom category but are now undiscoverable. Remove them immediately to clean up your targets list and avoid seeing target discovery failures. |
| Pure Storage targets running Purity 6.4.4 (Pure API 1.6) | Added to version 8.12.2 | Turbonomic now supports Pure Storage targets running Purity 6.4.4 (Pure API 1.6). |
| Memory setting in host templates | Updated in version 8.11.4 | Turbonomic now uses GB as the primary unit for setting the memory capacity for host templates. Also, the Memory default value is now 1024 GB. |
| Microsoft Hyper-V 2022 and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2022 | Added to version 8.10.1 | Turbonomic now supports Microsoft Hyper-V 2022 and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2022 targets. |
| MySQL 8.0 | Added to version 8.10.1 | Turbonomic now supports MySQL 8.0 as an optional alternative database server for MariaDB for running Turbonomic. |
| Legacy savings and investments charts | Added | When the enhanced savings and investments charts were released, the documentation stated that legacy savings and investments data is not available in the enhanced charts, but can be extracted from the platform by using a script.
Legacy data is available in the legacy savings and investments charts. The charts are titled 'Legacy' so you can distinguish them from the enhanced charts. |
| Sustainability features | Documentation updated | When the first set of sustainability features were released, the documentation incorrectly listed three targets that fully support these features – HPE OneView, Cisco UCS Manager, and VMware vCenter.
Currently, only VMware vCenter fully supports these features. The documentation has been updated accordingly. |
| Azure permissions | Updated | Permissions were updated to more accurately reflect the minimum permissions for discovering workloads and executing actions. For example, permissions with wildcards (*) were replaced with the exact permissions.
For details, see Azure permissions. |
| Rate of Resize setting in on-prem VM policies | Updated | The Rate of Resize default value has changed from 2 to 3.
If you have changed your default setting to 1 or want to keep the current default setting of 2, create a new policy that is scoped to all on-prem VMs and configure the Rate of Resize to your wanted setting. |
Notices
Features are labeled based on the following definitions:
-
Deprecated – The feature is still supported but no longer developed or enhanced. The feature is not recommended for use and might become obsolete. Turbonomic might remove it in a subsequent release of the product.
-
Removed – The feature is no longer available in the product.
-
Unsupported – The feature is no longer supported in the product.
Note:When a specific release or version of an integration partner technology reaches end-of-life (EOL) or its end of support date, Turbonomic no longer provides support for that version. Turbonomic follows integration partners' official EOL timeline for version support. Targeting a unsupported version, or one that is no longer supported by the vendor, is at your own risk.
The changes that are listed here will be made in the noted version. Consider the details and recommended actions that are provided.
