Import User Accounts from CSV file
You can import multiple user accounts into Targetprocess by using a CSV file. This method enables bulk creation or update of users instead of adding them individually.

Here's how the typical CSV file with user data looks like being opened in a spreadsheet editor:

CSV import is one of several supported methods for creating users. Choose the method that best fits your data and workflow. For more information, see How to Add Users.
Files in CSV (Comma-separated values) format are commonly used to transfer data between spreadsheet editors (such as Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Google Sheets) and other software systems and tools.
Supported Fields and Formats
Here’s the list of the fields that can be mapped as columns during import:
| Name | Required | Format | Notes |
| ID | 123 | Update an existing User who has specified numeric ID. New User is created when ID value is blank or not mapped. | |
| V | andrew.gray@apptio.com | Must be unique. | |
| Login | V | agrayandrew.gray@apptio.com | Must be unique. May be the same as email. |
| First Name | Andrew | ||
| Last Name | Gray | ||
| Password | [rm7:3Nv | If left blank then newly created users are unable to log in until they follow Forgot your password? link on the login page. | |
| Role | Developer | Default Role of the user. If left blank then first Role in the system is set. | |
| Is Observer | FALSETRUE | User account is set to the Observer mode. If left blank then FALSE is applied by default. | |
| Custom Fields | One column per each field. |
How to perform the Import
- Ensure that you have administrator permissions, or a role with Add/Edit permissions for User entities.
- Prepare a CSV file with user data. CSV files are commonly used to exchange data between spreadsheet tools and systems.
- Verify that required fields (such as Email and Login) are included and unique.
- Confirm that sufficient unused licenses are available for new users.
- Check license usage in System Settings > License before performing the import.
- Go to Settings > Import.
- Upload your CSV file.
- Configure import settings (for example, delimiter and entity type).

- Select User in the Select Type to import dropdown
menu.

- Map CSV columns to user fields.

- Run the import and click Next.

- Review the import results and logs.

Limitations and considerations
If the CSV file contains an Entity Type column, each row must have the value User. Make the initial selection after you upload the file.

If the column is missing, select User as the Entity Type during uploading a CSV file.

- Verify that sufficient unused licenses are available before importing users.
- Licensing in Targetprocess is user-based and counts active users (users who can log in and interact with the system).
- The number of active users must not exceed the number of purchased licenses.
To make licenses available:
- Purchase additional licenses, or
- Deactivate unused user accounts, or
- Delete unused accounts (not recommended)
For more information, see Inactive.
- Assigning users to projects or teams is not supported during CSV import.
- To add users and assign them to projects or teams in a single step, use:
