Creating the Tape Manager configuration file
The Tape Manager configuration file can be managed from any user ID authorized to update the configuration disk (the TxTMM 198, by default). Four sample configuration files are included on the 2C2 disk of the 5697J08C installation user ID. Select a sample file name from the following list and use that name in Step 4 below:
- STDMODE CONFSAMP
- Use this file if you are configuring a Dedicated Catalog instance; that is, you are not planning to share the Tape Manager catalog with another instance of Tape Manager (Shared Catalog) and you do not plan to use Tape Manager with a DFSMS/MVS Removable Media Manager on z/OS tape catalog (RMM catalog).
- CATNODE CONFSAMP
- Use this file if you plan to share the Tape Manager tape catalog with another instance of Tape Manager (Shared Catalog) and the instance you are configuring will own the tape catalog; that is, the instance will be a Catalog Node.
- REQNODE CONFSAMP
- Use this file if you plan to share the Tape Manager tape catalog with another instance of Tape Manager (Shared Catalog) and the instance you are configuring will not own the catalog; that is, the instance will be a Request Node.
- RMMMODE CONFSAMP
- Use this file if the tape catalog will be owned by DFSMS/MVS Removable Media Manager on z/OS rather than Tape Manager (RMM catalog).
Use the file name of the CONFSAMP file you choose from this list where sample_file_name is specified in Step 4 below.
To create an initial configuration file, perform the following steps:
- Log on to the VM user ID your installation will use to modify the Tape Manager configuration file. Do not use TxTMM.
- Link and access the minidisk that contains the samples:
CP LINK 5697J08C 2C2 2C2 RR ACCESS 2C2 E
If using SFS, access the SAMPLE directory as shown below. Replace filepool with the file pool from your installation.
'ACCESS filepool:5697J08C.TAPEMGR.SAMPLE E'
- Link and access the minidisk that contains the configuration
files:
CP LINK TxTMM 198 198 MR ACCESS 198 F
If using SFS, access the configuration directory as shown below. Replace filepool with the file pool from your installation.
'ACCESS filepool:TxTMM.TMM198 F'
- Copy the CONFSAMP sample file selected above:
COPYFILE sample_file_name CONFSAMP E SYS CONFIG F
- Modify the startup configuration file:
XEDIT SYS CONFIG F
