System planning

As part of your system planning activity, you must make decisions about where to locate your equipment, who will operate the system, and so on. A good plan ensures that the equipment and materials are ready to use when the 3932 arrives.

The type of software (operating system and application programs) that you intend to use must support the features and devices on the system. You should already be familiar with your software requirements, but may want to contact your IBM® marketing representative for information on planning for the software.

Attention: The physical preparation requirements for the 3932 server are similar to the 3907 (z14 Model ZR1 or Rockhopper II Model LR1) system, but significantly different from prior legacy systems. You must ensure that you and your IBM marketing representative or Business Partner are thorough when planning for the physical installation of this system.
The review and completion of the following assessments is recommended:
  • Site planning checklist
  • Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA)
    • Complete with your IBM marketing representative or Business Partner and the IBM service representatives that will be installing your system.
  • For cable management best practices and guidelines, see 3932 Single Frame External Cabling Best Practices (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7001737).

To assist in site planning, 2-D drawing files to be used with Microsoft Visio® and AutoCAD® available on Resource Link at http://www.ibm.com/support/resourcelink under Planning > Physical Planning. Navigate to the section for your specific IBM Z, then click Visio® files.

Note: All dimensions are considered nominal.
