Weight distribution and floor loading

Weight distribution and floor load planning calculations must be completed to ensure adequate installation and serviceability of IT equipment in both raised floor and non-raised floor environments. System weight and physical dimensional information are provided to calculate weight distribution and floor loading associated with client frames that include one or more rack mount systems.

  • For system weight examples, see System weight examples.
  • If needed, the Floor load calculator can be used to determine the distributed load that a server, expansion unit, or migration tower places on a sub-floor (for example, in a data center with a raised floor) or on an above-ground, non-raised floor structure can be determined using floor load calculator.
Note: Calculations assume complete IT content weight including frames and covers (where applicable).

The following figure, and tables in System weight examples, show sample floor loading values for the rack mount.

Figure 1. One frame
This graphic shows a sample floor loading view for the single frame 8561.

All measurements are taken from the outside edge of the machine frame, without covers, unless described otherwise.

  • a = left side clearance dimension
  • b = front clearance dimension
  • c = rear clearance dimension
  • d = right side clearance dimension
