Light propagation in an IBM link
Figure 1 shows the physical fiber connections for three links. Notice that an odd number of physical "crossovers" of each fiber must exist for correct light propagation to occur. IBM® duplex-to-duplex jumper cables are keyed, which maintains the crossover requirement within the cable. When a link uses both trunk and jumper cables, the trunk connections must ensure that an odd number of crossovers exist.
