The Spyre AI Card, also known as the IBM Spyre Accelerator, is a high-performance, energy-efficient PCIe add-on designed to enhance AI inferencing capabilities on IBM Z and LinuxONE systems. This powerful AI accelerator is designed to bring generative AI to the IBM z17 and LinuxONE Emperor 5, enabling enterprises to scale up large language model (LLM) AI capabilities within the trusted envelope of IBM Z environments.
The IBM Z and LinuxONE Spyre Accelerator User's Guide provides a comprehensive overview of the setup, configuration, and deployment of the Spyre Accelerator solution within IBM Z and LinuxONE environments. The publication is designed to support users in deploying the Spyre Accelerator, outlining system requirements, a solution overview, and a high-level workflow.
Subsequent chapters detail preconfiguration steps, including defining DASD, creating LPARs, and setting up physical and virtual functions for both standard and DPM-enabled systems. The guide then covers installation procedures for the Application Control Center (ACC) and Spyre Support Appliance (SSA), using both Ansible® and UI methods. Finally, it explains how to install and connect the physical Spyre Accelerator card to the system.
