Creating relationships

Relations are the basic means by which you can reference other objects. You can either drag a relationship element from the Browser view panel to a view or can create relations manually from the Browser panel, Properties panel, or while you work on the view in the view area.

Procedure

  • Drag a relationship element directly from the model navigator to a view. This creates an edge if both ends of the relationship are already represented as nodes in the view. For example, if your model includes elements with relationships like subsetting, you can easily place them on a view.
  • To create relations manually from one of the following areas of project editor, complete the following procedure:
    • To create relations from the Browser panel, hover over an element, and click the Options () icon next to the element. Click Create child elements.
      1. In the Add element box, from the All list, select Relationships. You can also search for them in the Search field.
      2. Select the appropriate relationship that you want to add.
      3. Specify the information in the required fields that appear for different relationship types.
      4. Click Add.
    • To create relations from the Properties panel, locate Owned relationships and expand it.
      1. In the Properties panel, click the Add Relationship (+) icon.
      2. Complete the above procedure to add the relationship.
    • To create relations while you work on a view, select the appropriate option from the diagram palette, and connect two nodes.
      1. Expand the palette.
      2. In the Relationships section, select the relation that you want to establish.
      3. To create a relationship, click the boundary of the first node to set the source, and then click the boundary of the second node to set the target.
