Migrating the log management solution

You can migrate the log management solution that is configured with an instance of Versions 6.2, 6.3, 6.3.1, 6.4, 8.0, 8.0.1, 10.0, 10.0.1, 10.0.2 and 10.0.3 to an instance of the current Version 10.0.4.

Before you begin

You must complete the following tasks before you migrate the log management solution from an instance of a previous supported version to a 10.0.4 instance:
  • Complete IBM® Security Verify Directory, Version 10.0.4 installation. .
  • Complete IBM Security Verify Directory Integrator, Version 10.0 or later installation, if it not installed on the computer.
  • Log in as a root user on AIX®, or Linux™ operating system, and as a member of the Administrator group on the Windows™ operating system.

Procedure

  1. Back up the solution.properties file that is in the DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt directory for your existing directory server instance.
    If you need to migrate log management solution from Security Verify Directory Virtual Appliance versions 8.0 or 8.0.1, create a support file from the appliance. From the support file, extract the solution.properties file from ./userdata/support/directory_sds_instance_logs.tgz/directory_sds_instance_logs.tar/home/sdsinst1/idsslapd-sdsinst1/etc/logmgmt/ folder.
  2. Upgrade your previous version of instance to 10.0.4 instance. See Upgrade an instance of a previous version.
  3. Remove all the files and subdirectories from the DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt directory for the upgraded instance.
  4. If your IBM Security Verify Directory Integrator is earlier than version 10.0 or later, complete the IBM Security Verify Directory Integrator, Version 10.0 or later installation.
  5. Switch the user context as directory server instance owner. 
    su - instance_owner
  6. Copy the following files and directories:
    1. Copy the sdi_installation_location/etc folder to DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt/ so that you get DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt/etc as a result.
    2. Copy the files and directories from sdi_installation_location/serverapi to DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt.
    3. Copy sdi_installation_location/idisrv.sth to DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt.
    4. Copy sdi_installation_location/testserver.jks to DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt.
    5. Copy the backup copy of solutions.properties file (from Step 1.), to DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt
  7. Create a directory with the name logs in DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt.
  8. Add the systemqueue.on=false entry at the end of the DS_instance_home/idsslapd-instance_name/etc/logmgmt/solutions.properties file.
  9. If the IBM Security Verify Directory Integrator, Version 10.0 or later installation path in different from the default path, set the IDS_LDAP_TDI_HOME variable with the installation location.
  10. Run the log management solution.
