Upgrading an instance of a previous version with Instance Administration Tool

Use Instance Administration Tool to upgrade a directory server instance or a proxy server instance of a previous supported version to Version 10.0.1.

Before you begin

You must complete the following tasks before you upgrade an instance with Instance Administration Tool:
  • Complete IBM® Security Verify Directory, Version 10.0.1 installation.
  • Set up the environment before you upgrade an instance. See, Setting the environment before you upgrade an instance.
  • Log in as a root user on AIX®, or Linux™ operating system, and as a member of the Administrator group on the Windows™ operating system.

About this task

You can upgrade from IBM Security Verify Directory, Version 6.3 , 6.3.1, 6.4 or 10.0 to Version 10.0.1. After you upgrade an instance of a previous version, the instance is converted to a fully functional instance of IBM Security Verify Directory, Version 10.0.1.

Procedure

  1. Access the command prompt.
  2. Change the current working directory to sbin.
    The following location is the default on various operating systems:
    Microsoft™ Windows
    C:\Program Files\IBM\ldap\V10.0.1\sbin
    AIX
    /opt/IBM/ldap/V10.0.1/sbin
    Linux
    /opt/ibm/ldap/V10.0.1/sbin
  3. To start Instance Administration Tool, run the following command:
    Note: On Windows system, you can start from the Start menu. Click Start > All Programs > IBM Security Verify Directory 10.0.1 > Instance Administration Tool.

  4. Select a previous version of an instance that you want to upgrade.
  5. Click Migrate.
  6. In the Migrate directory server instance window, click Migrate.
  7. When Instance Administration Tool prompts after it completes the upgrade operation, click OK.
  8. Verify the summary information.
  9. To close the Migrate directory server instance window, click Close.
  10. Take offline backup of the instance.

  11. To close Instance Administration Tool, click Close.

Results

Instance Administration Tool upgrade a previous version of directory server instance to 10.0.1.
