Using filters in IBM Support Insights

Global filtering

When working with IBM Support Insights, you may wish to customize the content you are currently working with. For example, instead of seeing all assets for your organization, you may wish to limit your view to what matters most to you at a given time.

To accomplish that, you can set a Global Filter. The global filter editor can be launched on any page by selecting the Filter icon from the right-hand side of the application's header.

Global filters

Applying a new filter is accomplished by clicking on the Add Filter button and by then selecting an option to filter by. Next, a dropdown with values loads and the user may select specifically what to filter for. Clicking on Apply Filter enables the desired filter. When the filter is active, the content on the entire application changes accordingly, and a blue pill-like element is displayed at the top of the page, indicating that a global filter is active.

Active global filter

A global filter can be enabled, edited, disabled, or deleted. Additional filters may be added for further customization of the displayed content. Global filters can be deleted individually, or altogether by clicking the Clear All button.

Global filters become part of the user configuration and are maintained across browser sessions. If the user logs out and then logs back in at a future time - the same global filters will be applied as during the last application session. Additionally, global filters apply to all sections of IBM Support Insights, not only the page they were applied on.

Local table filtering

In addition to the Global filters described above, IBM Support Insight tables provide table-level filtering, also termed Local filters. Using local filters allows users to drill down into the data of a specific table. Local filters are created by clicking on the Filter icon in the right-hand side of the desired table's header.

Clicking on the Add Filter button creates a filter clause for a field of choice. Next, the user selects one of the available operators. Depending on the operator chosen, the user is asked to either enter a value or select the values they wish to filter by from a dropdown list. When clicking on Apply Filter afterwards, the filter is enabled and the table is then refreshed to only display the desired content.

Additionally, time-related data points, such as Coverage expires or Warranty start date may be filtered with time-related operators. These operators are Is earlier than which allows you to select a date and filter only values that are prior to it; Is later than which allows you to select a date and filter only values that are after it; Is between which allows you to select a start and an end date of a period according to which you'd like to filter your table view.

An applied filter can be enabled, edited, disabled, or deleted. Additional filters may be added for further customization of the displayed content. The applied filter is visualized as a pill, or several pills if several filters are created, immediately after the table's header.

Local filters are only maintained within the active browser session.

Editing filters

All filters within IBM Support Insights may be edited. This is accomplished by firstly opening the filter itself. For global filters, that is achieved by selecting the Filter icon from the right-hand side of the application's header. For local filters, this is achieved by clicking on the Filter icon in the right-hand side of the desired table's header.

Once the filter is opened, click on the three dots on the right-hand side of the filtering criterion. This will open the filter menu, from where you can either Edit the filter, Disable the filter or Delete the filter entirely. Selecting Edit filter will re-open the filter functionality, which was used to initially set up the particular filter.

The edit, disable and delete functionalities are implemented both in the global filters and in the local filters of the application.

Filters can be deleted individually as outlined previously, or altogether by clicking on the Clear All button of the filter menu.
