Coverage section documentation for IBM Support Insights

Coverage tab view

On the main Inventory page, you can switch to a dedicated Coverage view by selecting the Coverage tab. This page provides the option to either view coverage information organized by groups of assets - in the By group sub-tab - or view coverage information organized by the assets' location, service level and expiration - in the By geo sub-tab. Additionally, you also have the Service analysis sub-tab, allowing you a quick overview of your assets' associated services.

For a list of the various available coverage statuses, please refer to the Glossary.

Please note, assets that are considered inactive are automatically removed from the client's inventory after 180 days. Inactive assets are those whose warranty or hardware support has been expired or canceled for over 180 days and they are not under an active or renewed contract.

Furthermore, this tab (and its sub-tabs) only contains hardware devices-related information. Virtual assets are excluded from these insights, regardless of the state of the virtual assets toggle.

By group view

Viewing Coverage details by group is further split into displaying and grouping assets by Time or by Status .

Time

By default, the page is organized and displayed By group and by Time , and the inventory is grouped by its expiration status - a circle diagram displays the groups of assets per expiration status, and a legend table on the right-hand side of the circle allows you to deselect and select certain expiration groups for a better overview. The legend table serves as a local filter and is applied to the count of assets in the circle and in the table following it.

Please note, if you make any deselection in the legend table (in other words, apply a local filter to your current view) - it will remain for the duration of your current application session. If you wish to navigate to other pages with IBM Support Insights (SI) and return to the Coverage page - your viewing preference will remain applied. If you log out of the application and log back in - your viewing preference will not be saved.

Coverage tab - by group view - Expiration

Additionally, you may choose a different grouping criteria for the assets from the first dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the page - the available options are by Vendor, by Product category, by Product family, or by Product id. Choosing a different grouping criterion updates the contents of the table. You may also limit the view and go from seeing all the assets to only having the warranty assets displayed - this is accomplished by selecting Warranty only from the second dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the page. By default, all assets are displayed.

Furthermore, for a better experience with the application, the asset details table located after the circle diagram and legend table contains an All row so that you can see your entire inventory's coverage overview in a single view. The row's label is updated accordingly when the grouping criterion is modified using the drop-down on the top right-hand side of the tab. In other words, when Vendor is selected - the top row of the asset details table's label is All vendors; and when, for example, Product family is selected - the label is All product families.

Status

Using the toggle at the start of the Coverage sub-tab, you may switch from viewing the assets grouped by Time to viewing them grouped by coverage Status . The inventory is grouped and displayed in a bar chart, and a legend table on the right-hand side of the chart allows you to deselect and select certain coverage groups for a better overview. The legend table serves as a local filter and is applied to the count of assets in the circle and in the table following it.

Additionally - as in the Time view - you may choose a different grouping criteria for the assets from the first dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the page - the available options are by Vendor, by Product category, by Product family, or by Product id. Choosing a different grouping criterion updates the contents of the table. You may also limit the view and go from seeing all the assets to only having the warranty assets displayed - this is accomplished by selecting Warranty only from the second dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the page. By default, all assets are displayed.

Drilling down into coverage information for a dedicated group

Select an assets group from the list on the main coverage page, by clicking on its name, to drill down for more information. Note, the assets groups' names change as the grouping criterion changes. Once you have clicked on a group from the list, a details page is then displayed which shows a breakdown of the coverage status for all assets in the selected group. The page also provides a legend table with clickable number tiles - on the right-hand side of the circle diagram - which allows for filtering of the assets in the asset details table following the circle diagram. The legends table serves as a filtering option for assets and is based on their coverage expiration/status. The asset details table will contain only the number of assets corresponding to the selection from the legend table. If no selection is made, the assets table is unfiltered and contains all assets from the chosen group.

Coverage tab - detailed by group view

In this table, users can switch between viewing assets and viewing services. This is accomplished using the View services button located in the asset details table's header. This will toggle the visible columns, which users can also do manually using the properties selector button from the table's header.

To navigate back to the Coverage overview, click on the Back to overview button at the beginning of the page.

By geo view

When the By geo sub-tab is selected the page displays a map-based view that helps you see coverage status and service levels by geographic region. The page consists of a map, a view by selector to see the breakdown by different coverage statuses, and a detailed list of assets based on the selected criteria. The assets' coverage-related properties are displayed in a table to support further drill-down by either Service level or expiration Time.

Coverage tab - by geo view

Using the View assets by table and its dropdown menu on the upper left-hand side of the sub-tab, you can choose whether to view the assets on the map grouped by their Service level or by their expiration Time. When a viewing criterion is set, both the View assets by table's contents and the map are updated in order to reflect the selection.

Please note, if you make any deselection in the view by table (in other words, apply a local filter to your current view) - it will remain for the duration of your current application session. If you wish to navigate to other pages with IBM SI and return to the Coverage page - your viewing preference will remain applied. If you log out of the application and log back in - your viewing preference will not be saved.

By default, the map is displayed in Chart view in order to better show the breakdown of the assets in each geo into their respective service levels. If you wish to view a deeper level of detail for each asset group on the map, you may switch from a Geo to a Country view using the Geo-Country slider on the top left-hand corner of the map. If you wish to view the map in a Bubbles view, you may switch between Chart view and Bubble view using the three-dot menu in the upper right-hand corner of the map.

The asset details table on this tab functions identically to the asset details table on the Inventory tab.

Service analysis

The Service analysis tab is further split into two sub-tabs each providing its own further insights into the client inventory's state

Coterminous

The first available sub-tab is the Coterminous tab. When selected, the page displays a breakdown of the client's covered assets into such with coterminous service levels and such with non-coterminous service levels

If one asset has two or more services that end on the same date - they are considered coterminous. If the services for that asset do not end on the same date - they are non-coterminous. This view allows you to identify assets where differing end dates would result in gaps in coverage and could potentially lead to delays in support.

Service analysis - Coterminous

At the top of the sub-tab, on the right-hand side, you will see a dropdown menu allowing you to switch between viewing Assets and viewing Services. By default, the page is displayed in Assets mode. Please note, if you opt for viewing Services instead - that will update the contents of the other page components. This will lead to an increase in the number of elements in the diagram, legend and table, as one asset is generally linked to more than one service. Similarly, switching back to Assets view will update the contents accordingly as well.

Immediately after the dropdown, you will see a circle diagram that displays the two groups of assets, and a legend table on the right-hand side of the circle allows you to deselect and select either of the two groups for a better overview.

The table at the end of the screen contains asset details. You may search within it, modify the displayed data points (columns), and apply filters. Furthermore, you can switch between viewing assets and viewing services - in the table only - using the designated button.

Please note, the default state of the table depends on your selection in the previously described Assets/Services dropdown. However, if you are in Assets view - you will have the button View services in the table header allowing you to change only the table view to Services instead of Assets. That will not impact the contents of the diagram and legend table counts. Similarly, if you are in Services view, you will be able to switch the asset table's view to Assets, using the View assets button, and that will not impact the contents of the diagram and legend table.

The asset table also support contents export - using either the Export all for all assets export, or you can manually select specific items from the table and select the Export selected option instead.

Service level diversity

The second sub-tab available for selection is the Service level diversity sub-tab, offering you a deep dive into the variety of service levels for the different combinations of machine type and model from the client's inventory.

Service analysis - Service level diversity

At the top of the tab, on the right-hand side, you have two available dropdown selections to make. The first one is to choose to view the data either displayed/grouped per either Service levels (the default setting) or Service groups. When you switch between these two - the tab itself will visually change and its contents will be automatically updated to reflect the different grouping. The Service level view groups devices with the same Product ID highlighting their different service levels (e.g. 24hrs x 7days vs 12hrs x 5days). Whereas the Service group view groups devices with the same Product ID highlighting their different service option (e.g. Hardware maintenance vs Media retention). The visual breakdown of the different asset sets, whether by service level or service group/type, allows users to spot and address inconsistencies in their devices' support.

The second dropdown menu allows you to select the top count of machine type+model combinations with the highest number of service level diversity you wish to see from the inventory. You may choose to have either Top 5, Top 10, Top 20 or have All of them displayed. The page's contents are updated automatically as soon as you change your dropdown menu selection.

Following are graph visual representations of each of the top machine type + model combinations - the number of graphs depends on your selection in the aforementioned items dropdown. Each individual graph contains a legend immediately following it.

Please note, if you select All from the previous dropdown - the graph will be hidden from view.

You may also hide the graphs from view using the upwards facing arrow on the right-hand side of the section. The graphs section is expanded by default and may be collapsed from view using the arrow.

Immediately after the graphs is a summary table, containing more information about each machine type+model combination item. The table includes additional data elements aimed at providing a brief overview into each item's current risk and coverage state.

The rows of the table can be expanded by clicking on the arrow on the far left-hand side of each asset group's row. Each row of the table may be selected and deselected as well, which is achieved by clicking on the checkbox on the left-hand side of each row. Deselecting a row will impact the asset table located at the end of the page, but not the aforementioned graphs.

When expanded, the rows of the summary table show the different types of service levels within that machine type+model combination item, along with a count and percentage of how many assets from that combination share the specific service level. The now expanded rows are not clickable. By default, all available rows are collapsed and selected, and may be expanded and/or deselected by the user.

At the end of the page, you will find the asset table, which contains detailed information about each asset within the selected machine type+model combinations.

The table functions identically to the asset details table from the main Inventory tab. The table columns are configurable, along with the ability to add new data elements or remove existing ones from view, and all columns can be repositioned. For more information on customizing table views, go to the customizing tables section. The contents of the table can be exported, and you may also select just a subset of assets for download. For more details on table content exports, go to the exporting table content section. Filtering is also supported in the asset details table of the page, allowing you to quickly limit the displayed assets to only those you're interested in. More information on local filtering is available in the local table filters section. Additionally, the table has a search functionality, and details on how to make the best of it can be found at the searching within tables section.
