Updating Tools

This section describes how to use the Tool Administration view to update installed tools.

Update Overview

Installed tools are updated using IBM Installation Manager or the IBM Support Assistant Tool Administration view. This topic describes how to update tools using the Tool Administration view.

When updates for installed tools are available, you will see a notification badge next to the Administration menu showing the number of updates available for installed tools. A badge will also appear next to the Tool Administration sub-menu item.

Note: When updating tools, it is important to note the following conditions:
  • The Tool Administration view is restricted to authorized users. Refer to the Authentication and Authorization support topic for more information.
  • Tools are updated while the server is running.
  • Tools are updated from an ibm.com repository which requires an IBM Web Identity. This is the same ID you used to download or install IBM Support Assistant.
  • Tools are updated using the same IBM Installation Manager instance and user ID that were used to install IBM Support Assistant. Tools will fail to update from the Tool Administration view if IBM Support Assistant is started with a different user ID.
  • The Update action is only available when IBM Support Assistant Team Server was initially installed via IBM Installation Manager. Neither the all-in-one zip installation option, nor the EAR deployment option can manage tools through the Tool Administration view.
  • External tools are updated in the list of available tools. The tools themselves are not updated.
