Receiving inventory by shipments or cartons

As a store associate, you can view the total number of incoming, received, and delayed shipments and receive inventory by scanning shipment or carton numbers.

About this task

Note: Single-location stores and no-inventory stores do not require DOCK-LOCATION to be configured. If the store is not a single-location store and if it maintains inventory, then you must have a DOCK-LOCATION configured and the received inventory is added to the DOCK-LOCATION.

Procedure

To receive a shipment, complete the following steps:
  1. Log in to Sterling Store Engagement.
  2. From the application menu, select Inventory management.
  3. In the Receive inventory portlet, complete one of the following steps:
    • Scan or enter the shipment or carton number.
    • Click a count corresponding to the kind of shipment that you want to receive. For example, Incoming, Delayed.
    • Click Advanced search, specify the search criteria, and click Search.
The Shipments page opens. In the Shipments page, you can filter the list of shipments based on ETA, Carrier, Source, and Shipment type. You can also sort the shipments from Oldest to newest and Newest to oldest.
  4. For the shipment that you want to receive, click Receive or Continue.
  5. Scan the carton number or click Receive for each carton in the shipment.
    • If you cannot receive a carton in the shipment because it is damaged, click Record damage, select a reason, and click Done.
    • If you want to undo the process for a carton, click Unreceive.
    • If the shipment is from a trusted vendor or source, you can receive all cartons together by clicking Receive all.
Note: The Receive all resource permission for receiving orders must be enabled to receive all inventory.
  6. Select Notes from the Actions menu to add notes to save any information that is relevant to this shipment for future reference. You can also view notes that are already added to this shipment.
  7. Click Done.
  8. If all cartons are not received, a warning message is displayed with the number of cartons that are not received.
    • Select Receive later to pause the receiving and continue after sometime. This will not create putaway tasks for the received cartons.
    • Select Receive later in a new receipt to receive the available cartons in the current receipt and close it. The remaining cartons can be received in a new receipt later. This will create putaway tasks for the received cartons, so you can use this option when the shipment is split between two deliveries.
  9. Click Done.
If there are unreceived cartons, you can scan the shipment number in the Receive inventory portlet later and receive the remaining cartons.
