Virtual cartridge copy availability

You can control whether a copy of a virtual cartridge is available on another TS7785 cluster and when that copy is made.

By default, the TS7785 manages cartridge replication automatically. Most configurations do not require changes to the replication settings. For environments that need more control, you can configure per-cluster replication behavior through the Custom (advanced) replication settings of the cartridge pool.

Replication settings

The following replication modes are supported in R1.0:

Deferred copy
The copy of the virtual cartridge is delayed. This mode is typically used to reduce traffic on the grid network and to minimize excessive reclamation activity on target clusters.
No copy
No copy of the virtual cartridge is created on another TS7785 Cluster.
Important: If the TS7785 Cluster that initially holds a virtual cartridge fails and a copy has not yet been completed on another cluster, the virtual cartridge is unavailable during the outage. Mount requests for that cartridge within the grid will fail.

Parallel copies and pre-migrations for read mounts

Copies and pre-migrations within the grid can continue when a private mount occurs. Read mounts can run in parallel with replication and pre-migration activity.

If a write or update operation occurs, all pre-migration and replication activity for the affected cartridge restarts after the cartridge is closed and demounted.
