Post-installation tasks

Review these post-installation tasks to prepare the TS7785 for production use.

Post-installation summary

Task area Customer action Purpose
Virtual libraries Define the number of virtual libraries, drive assignments per cluster, and cartridge pools. Supports workload separation and capacity planning.
Hosts and SAN Plan host access to TS7785 ports and document SAN cabling and zoning. Supports performance, high availability, and security.
Replication Select replication settings that meet site topology, recovery, and availability requirements. Supports business continuity and data availability across clusters.
Cloud tiering Decide whether to connect to existing IBM Storage Deep Archive systems, identify the workloads that use them, and collect the connection details required for configuration. Supports retention, cost, and performance objectives.
Security Review management access, authentication, encryption, and audit settings. Supports protection of management access and stored data.
Support Review TSSC settings, including Call Home, heartbeat, and related support connectivity. Supports ongoing serviceability and remote support readiness.

Virtual libraries

Define the virtual library layout for your environment. Determine how many virtual libraries you need, how many drives to assign per cluster, and how many cartridge pools are required.

Use these settings to align the TS7785 configuration with workload separation and capacity needs.

Host and SAN configuration

Document how hosts connect to the TS7785 before production use. Identify which hosts require access to which TS7785 ports and how the SAN is cabled and zoned.

Verify that the host environment and switching infrastructure are supported for the intended configuration.

Replication

If the environment uses multiple clusters, review the replication configuration that is required to meet availability and recovery objectives.

Select the settings that align with the operational and site requirements for the environment.

Cloud tiering

Decide whether to connect the TS7785 to existing IBM Storage Deep Archive systems in your environment and determine which workloads use that tier.

Gather the information that is required to configure the connection, such as the endpoint and any required certificates.

Security

Review the security settings that apply to the installed configuration. This review can include the authentication method, access policy, encryption settings, and any audit or monitoring functions required by your site.

If encryption is included in the configuration, complete the required setup before placing the system into production.

Support

Review the TSSC support settings after installation. This review can include Call Home configuration, heartbeat settings, and other remote support connectivity settings required by your site.

Record the information needed by the storage, SAN, security, and support teams for ongoing maintenance.
