IBM Storage Scale supported upgrade paths
Use this information to understand the online upgrade paths that are supported for IBM Storage Scale.

Note: After an IBM
Storage Scale version is past its end
of service (EOS) date, no further testing or proof of upgrade path to later supported releases is
done. It is strongly recommended to upgrade to a newer version of IBM
Storage Scale that is supported before your currently
installed version is past its EOS date. For more information, see Product lifecycle in IBM Support documentation.
Important:
- To upgrade to IBM Storage Scale 6.0.0.0 from 5.1.9.x or an earlier version, you must perform an offline upgrade because the online upgrade is not supported for said upgrade paths.
- The versions that are not shown in the upgrade paths table are past their EOS date. You can access upgrade procedures for these versions in the IBM Storage Scale documentation of earlier releases. For example, if you have IBM Storage Scale 4.2.3.x version, refer to IBM Storage Scale 5.0.x documentation. However, online upgrade from an unsupported version is not supported. You must use an offline upgrade for such upgrade paths.
Remember:
- Online upgrade support for protocol nodes depends on which services are enabled and deployed. Different protocol services have different levels of online upgrade support. For more information, see Online upgrade support for protocols and performance monitoring.
- IBM Storage Scale installation toolkit can be used for upgrades from version 4.1.1.x onwards.
