Core QoS objects

Core QoS objects include classes and throttles that form the foundation of QoS management in IBM Storage Scale.

A QoS class is a logical grouping of file system objects that are managed as a single entity for QoS purposes. Three types of core QoS objects are supported in IBM Storage Scale: system classes, user classes, and throttles.

System classes
The QoS system classes are predefined objects that control internal file system operations. For more information, see System classes.
User classes
QoS user classes provide the capability to regulate I/O access at the fileset level. Filesets can be associated with functional groups, such as departments, projects, or teams. By assigning differentiated limits at the class level, you can effectively create class-based performance tiers, thereby protecting high-priority workloads from resource contention and noisy neighbors. QoS throttles
A throttle is a rule that limits I/O operations for a QoS class. A throttle consists of two components: a unique I/O context and an I/O limit. For more information, see Throttles for QoS classes.
