Active file management-hierarchical storage management integration for the data migration
Active file management (AFM) replicates data from a hierarchical storage management (HSM)-configured file system on a home cluster to a file system in a cache cluster without recalling data, which is migrated to a tape.
Many files with large data might be migrated from the home file system to the tape. These files
in the home file system can be in the following states:
- Resident: Data is on a disk.
- Pre-Migrated: Data is on a disk and a tape.
- Migrated: Data is only on a tape.
Instead of recalling data on the tape, IBM Storage Scale
integrates only the file or inode metadata by adding afmIncludeDmapiCache and
afmIncludeDmapiHome data management API (DMAPI) flags to locate data on the
tape. For this data migration, consider the following points:
- DMAPI is enabled at the cluster level on both the home and cache clusters.
- Both clusters are connected to the same HSM server, so that tape metadata remains consistent and valid on the cache side.
