Multi-site replication

By using the multi-site replication, you can connect an AFM to cloud object storage fileset to multiple cloud object storage buckets by using AFM gateway nodes. Each gateway node connects to a bucket on a respective cloud object storage from the same or different cloud object storage provider. This connection enables placement of files or objects in an IBM Storage Scale cluster to multiple cloud object storage buckets simultaneously.

By enabling IBM Storage Scale multi-site replication (by using AFM), you can move data across multiple object storage providers. This feature provides high availability, fault tolerance, reduced latency, parallel access, and migration between clouds. Also, you can move datasets within regions for AI and hybrid cloud environments, which allow you to access data on a cheaper storage and where compute is available.

You can enable this feature on IBM Storage Scale Advanced Edition, IBM Storage Scale Data Management Edition, or IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition.

Multi-site replication features

Disaster recovery and high availability
The multi-site replication ensures that stored data in an IBM Storage Scale cluster is simultaneously replicated in buckets of multiple object storage services. When a disaster or data center outage occurs, you can seamlessly switch to other site to minimize downtime and maintain business continuity.
Data redundancy and resilience
The replication of data to buckets on any cloud storage services enhances redundancy and resilience. When any cloud storage provider experiences an issue, data remains accessible from other sites, which improves system reliability.
Cross-cloud redundancy and high availability
The multi-site replication ensures that stored data in an IBM Storage Scale cluster is simultaneously replicated to multiple object storage providers. By using the multi-site replication, you can create redundancy on multiple cloud storage services. Because of redundancy, you can mitigate risks that are associated with potential issues or outages in a specific cloud platform.
Global collaboration and data distribution
Organizations with a global presence can use multi-site replication to distribute data across multiple regions. This feature facilitates collaboration among geographically dispersed teams and makes data available locally for better performance.
Efficient cloud migration and hybrid deployments
The multi-site replication feature can be valuable during cloud migration or hybrid cloud deployments. It seamlessly replicates and distributes data between on-premises storage and cloud storage, facilitates a smooth transition.
