Supported Write Once Read Many (WORM) storage use cases

This topic describes Write Once Read Many (WORM) use cases.

There are three Write Once Read Many (WORM) storage use cases:
  • Both file sets and files (as well as the expiration period) can be marked as immutable by using either the POSIX interface or the IBM Storage Scale command-line interface (CLI).
  • Locked vaults can be created on the IBM Cloud® Object Storage system, which allows secure private-key-based access (only to transparent cloud tiering).
  • Immutable files can be tiered onto the IBM Cloud Object Storage by using transparent cloud tiering. The data on the cloud is not deleted because data on the file system cannot be deleted until the expiration period is reached.
WORM is purely a software-defined solution, and the deployment combines the following three technologies:
  • IBM Storage Scale immutability
  • transparent cloud tiering
  • Locked vault support on IBM Cloud Object Storage
Note: These use cases are applicable only to IBM Cloud Object Storage on-premise deployments.
