Data consolidation by using AFM

This is a use case for data consolidation by using AFM.

The following diagram illustrates the use case.

Use case requirement

A telecom company maintains a central repository of logs of all calls and SMS messages from each state in the country. Each of the state locations write unique data. One central repository consolidates data from all states. The central site can also write unique data on the same repository.

The AFM configuration and used modes

All state locations can be configured as IW or LU caches to the central location which is the home cluster. The home and the AFM caches can be connected to the IBM Spectrum Protect.

Problem resolution by using AFM

All IW caches can write unique data, which gets flushed to the central office.

If one IW cache or a state-level cache stops functioning, all applications can be moved or failed over to the central site until the cache cluster starts functioning. When the cache cluster starts functioning, the applications can be failed back to the IW cache by using the IW failback process. See unplanned maintenance by using IW cache section.

If the old IW cache does not restart, you can create a new IW cache and cache all the relevant data of the state from the home or the central repository.
