Encryption in a Disaster Recovery environment

While setting up multiple key servers in a high-availability configuration is important to ensure that the MEKs remain available, it is especially important in a Disaster Recovery environment. It is a good practice to place at least one key server on each site to ensure that keys remain available if access to an entire site is lost.
