Use a graphical user interface (GUI) to perform new upgrades from an x86 Utility
Node.
Remember: Upgrading using the GUI is not recommended if you are using the Remote Code
Load (RCL) service.
The following prerequisites must be completed before you proceed:
To upgrade IBM Storage Scale
Systems using the GUI,
complete the following steps:
- In a browser, go to the following URL to access the GUI. Replace the
<utilityBareMetalIP> with the IP address of the Utility Node.

- Log in using the credentials set for the installgui user on the
API container.
- Select an upgrade type:
- Software upgrade: This includes the IBM Storage Scale upgrade
- Firmware upgrade: This includes the Storage Enclosure firmware
upgrade
- Full upgrade: This includes both IBM Storage Scale and Storage Enclosure
firmware upgrades
- Click Next.
- In the Tarball Name field, enter the name of the IBM Storage Scale
Systems x86 container build placed on the Utility Bare
Metal.
- Enter Utility password and Emsvm
password.
- Select a serial number of the node by clicking the checkbox in the first column of the
table.
- Click Next.
- Select an Upgrade mode from the settings page:
- Online: The file system remains online, but individual blocks go offline
temporarily during the upgrade.
- Offline: The file system goes offline to upgrade selected node blocks and
returns online after completion.
- Select an Upgrade order based on your previous selection:
- Click Next and select Run Pre-check.
The system validates the essential requirements and displays a success message if the pre-check
completes without errors.
- Click Upgrade and select Start
Upgrade.
You can monitor the upgrade progress until it completes.
- Click Finish upgrade to complete.
