Incorporating IBM® Elastic Storage Server (ESS) building block in an IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition cluster

Use the following steps to add a newly shipped ESS building block into an existing ECE cluster.

Ensure that the following prerequisites are met before you install Elastic Storage Server (ESS) building block in an IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition cluster.

Note: An existing Elastic Storage Server (ESS) setup is not supported for this integration procedure. Before performing the procedure, the installation prerequisites must be met on Elastic Storage Server (ESS) candidate building block.
  • ESS version is 6.1.5.0 or later.
  • IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition version is 5.1.5.1 or later.
    Note: Elastic Storage Server (ESS) version that you use in this procedure must match the version that is already running on the IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition.
  • Configure Elastic Storage Server (ESS) network according to requirements, such as hardware management network, software management network, and Daemon network.
  • Elastic Storage Server (ESS) Daemon network must connect to IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition cluster daemon network and Network performance requirements are met.

The installation of Elastic Storage Server (ESS) in an IBM Storage Scale Erasure Code Edition cluster comprises four phases.

  1. Phase 1: Prepare the ESS building block.
  2. Phase 2: Install the ESS software and complete the network configuration.
  3. Phase 3: Adding the ESS building block nodes into the ECE cluster.
  4. Phase 4: Completing the configuration with mmvdisk command.
