IBM Storage Ceph Provisioner (Technology Preview)
IBM Storage Ceph Provisioner automates the deployment and lifecycle management of Ceph clusters on certified IBM Storage Ready Nodes. It uses immutable Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Image Mode and prebuilt Ceph images to deliver consistent installations.
Note: Technology Preview features are not supported with IBM production service level agreements
(SLAs), might not be functionally complete, and IBM does not recommend using them for production.
These features provide early access to upcoming product features, enabling customers to test
functionality and provide feedback during the development process.
Use the IBM Storage
Ceph Provisioner to deploy and manage Ceph
clusters with reduced manual configuration. The provisioner automatically:
- Discovers supported hardware and network interfaces
- Assigns storage and management roles to nodes
- Bootstraps the cluster using certified RHEL Image Mode and Ceph images
- Applies consistent configuration across all nodes
IBM Storage
Ceph Provisioner provides several capabilities
that simplify and standardize cluster deployment:
- Automated orchestration:
- Provides end-to-end cluster deployment through a guided user interface and REST APIs.
- Integrated infrastructure services:
- Provides DHCP and DNS services within an isolated provisioning network to reduce external dependencies.
- Immutable image model:
- Uses pretested RHEL Image Mode containers to deliver a secure and consistent operating environment.
- Lifecycle automation:
- Manages cluster upgrades, configuration updates, and health validation from a centralized interface.
The IBM Storage
Ceph Provisioner is intended for environments
that require predictable, repeatable Ceph deployments and centralized lifecycle management. Typical
use cases include:
- Deploying new Ceph clusters on IBM Storage Ready Nodes
- Standardizing deployments across multiple data centers
- Supporting regulated environments that require controlled images and version consistency
