Site preparation and pre-installation

These operations are necessary to prepare for the arrival of IBM Storage Ready Nodes.

Note: This document assumes the use of Ready Nodes in an existing data center. Site preparation advice only deals with those items specific to IBM Storage Ready Nodes. If you have questions about deployment environment, contact your IBM support.

Thorough site preparation and pre-installation planning help ensure that you have the prerequisites in place for a successful setup, system installation, and normal operations.

Planning minimizes errors during installation and helps you integrate the system into your data center.

Note: For a successful planning, you can assign a project manager to provide a documented plan that includes the following items:
  • A timeline for the activities.
  • Activity phases each with an intended outcome.
  • A list of responsibilities and the person assigned.
  • A current system diagram and configuration listing. Include all hardware content, software content, cabling, network addressing and support, and other pertinent configuration items.
  • A key contacts list, including off-hours contact information for all key task or activities.
  • A plan for communicating appropriate elements of your plan with key personnel.
You can complete the following operations during this phase:
  • Floor space allocation and orientation, including front and rear service access
  • Weight capacity determination
  • Power sizing
  • Cooling and acoustics verification
  • Network access planning
  • Pre-installation - Include the pre-installation of rack, necessary PDUs, switches and uplinks, facility power drop connections, and cables that leave the platform in a ready state for IBM Storage Ready Nodes installation.
