Ready Node for object storage

The IBM Storage Ready Node for object storage is a 2RU server.

The Ready Node consists of the following components:
  • Computational and storage elements.
  • 2x 10 GbE optical ports that use SFP+ transceivers.
  • A single RJ45 1 GbE management port.
  • Redundant power supply units (PSUs).
  • Integrated HA cooling.

Each unit supports twelve Large Form Factor (LFF) Near Line (NL) hard disk drives (HDDs) otherwise referred to as data drives or data HDDs. There are also two rear access Solid-State Disks (SSDs) used for metadata. The operating system (OS) runs on two rear access mirrored M.2 SSDs.

You have several capacity options that are designated as T-shirt sizes. Each T-shirt size has a different solution identifier. The capacity of the data disks is the only variation across sizes.

Table 1. Capacity sizing for HDD
Size Individual HDD capacity
Small 8 TB
Medium 12 TB
Medium or Large 16 TB
Large 20 TB
Large 24 TB
Note: There are no Ready Node partial population options. IBM Storage Ready Nodes for IBM Storage Ceph must use the same capacity data drives.
Note: Add more nodes, minimum one at a time to scale-out clusters.

The following table depicts system capacity levels for selected cluster configurations:

Note: Usable capacity is calculated considering data protection and Ready Node failure overhead.
