Upgrading Red Hat Enterprise Linux

You can upgrade Red Hat Enterprise Linux on an existing Ready Node system.

About this task

Upgrade Ready Node Red Hat Enterprise Linux while IBM Storage Ceph is operational. However, even in the case that the Ready Node must be taken offline for Red Hat Enterprise Linux upgrade and possible a restart, the remaining cluster remains operational as long as only one Ready Node is impacted at a time. Follow this process to avoid unnecessary data relocation.
Note: Red Hat Enterprise Linux revisions are coordinated with IBM Storage Ceph revisions. Check the Compatibility matrix before upgrading the operating system.
Note: Upgrade Red Hat Enterprise Linux on one Ready Node at a time to keep IBM Storage Ceph operational.

Procedure

  1. Place the Ready Node in IBM Storage Ceph maintenance mode. See Entering maintenance mode maintenance mode for more information.
  2. Complete the Red Hat Enterprise Linux upgrade and reboot the Ready Node.
  3. Exit the maintenance mode. See Exiting maintenance mode for more information.
