Network configuration

As a network administrator, define the actions necessary for basic set up of the management and data networks.

The data network supports the pathway between your clients and IBM Storage Ceph running on the IBM Storage Ready Nodes. The separate Out of Band (OOB) management network supports Ready Node functions and alerts. It uses a console device, for instance a separate laptop or workstation, whereby Ready Node functions and health can be monitored.

When installing IBM Storage Ready Nodes in a restricted network environment, iDRAC uses port 443 and a self-signed certificate, by default. For OOB networks, from your browser, go to https://IP_OF_BMC.

Management network

  • For each Ready Node management port:
    • Assign IP addresses/DHCP, DNS, hostname, and so on.
    • IBM recommends using static IP addresses.
    • IBM recommends using a separate, isolated management subnet/VLAN with access that is limited to authorize server administrators.
  • For accessing IBM Storage Ready Nodes management, attach a customer-supplied console, for example, a laptop or a workstation with selected browser to this network.

Data network

  • For each Ready Node NIC Port A and B:
    • Assign IP addresses/DHCP, DNS, hostname, and so on.
    • IBM recommends use of static IP addresses.
