Configuring Call Home

Refer to this topic to configure Call Home by using the configuration wizard.

About this task

You can configure the Call Home feature by using the IBM Storage Protect Instance Configuration Wizard. You need to provide the instance Id and credentials of the instance where you want to enable the Call Home feature.

Procedure

To enable Call Home, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the IBM Storage Protect Instance Configuration Wizard. In the Instance User ID panel, enter the following details:
    Windows operating systems
    • Enter the name of the instance name in the Instance field.
    • Enter user ID that is associated with the instance in the User ID field in the following format:
      domain\account_name
    • Enter the account password in the Password field.
    Linux operating systems
    • Enter user ID in the User ID field.
  2. Click Next and navigate to the Customer Details panel. Provide the following information in the Customer Details panel:
    • Customer ID: A unique seven character customer ID. This field is mandatory.
    • Country Code: Two-character country code. This field is mandatory
    • Email Address: Email address of the customer. This field is optional.
    • Phone Number: Phone number of the customer. This field is optional.
    • Company Name: Company name of the customer. This field is optional.
    • Contact Person: Contact person name of the customer. This field is optional.
    After providing the required details, click Next.
  3. Check the Enable Call Home option to enable the feature.
    On the Instance Configuration Wizard screen, you can see a message indicating that the instance is being configured. This may take few minutes. Once the instance is configured, you can see the configuration details in the Post Configuration Summary panel and close the wizard.
    Note: The configuration wizard supports Call Home configuration only during a fresh installation. Once the server instance has already been configured, the configuration wizard cannot be used to define or modify Call Home settings. If the configuration wizard is unavailable, use the UPDATE CALLHOME (Update the existing Call Home configuration) command to configure Call Home settings.

What to do next

To customize the inventory collection interval or the archive retention period without editing callhome.ini directly, set the following options in dsmserv.opt and restart the server. The server automatically propagates these values into callhome.ini on every restart.
