Re-creating the device configuration file

To allow the use of devices with a restored server, you can re-create the device class and any associated device that is used for your database backup volumes. The device configuration file (for example, devconf.dat) is created in this process.

Before you begin

Complete the steps for Reestablishing server-to-server communication when you are missing cert.kbd or cert.sth files.

If the server that is being restored is not running, start the server.

Procedure

Use the instructions in the following table to re-create the device class and any associated device that is used for your database backup volumes.
Storage environment Instructions
Single-site or multisite disk Define a device class for backup operations. For example, to create a device class that is named DBBACK_FILEDEV and specify a backup directory that is named DB_BACKUP_DIRECTORIES, issue the DEFINE DEVCLASS command as follows:
define devclass dbback_filedev devtype=file directory=db_backup_directories
