Cleaning up a converted storage pool

Storage pool conversion moves data from a primary pool to a cloud-container pool or directory-container pool. In some cases, data cannot be moved and must be manually cleaned up.

About this task

During conversion, eligible data is moved from the source pool to the target pool. The following data types cannot be moved:
  • Damaged files
  • Table of contents (TOC) backups
  • Virtual volumes
  • Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) data

You can use the Operations Center to view the amount of ineligible and damaged data that remains in a converted source pool, try the conversion operation again, or delete damaged data.

Procedure

To view and manage unconverted files, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Storage Pools page of the Operations Center, select a storage pool for which a Cleanup status is shown.
  2. Click Details and open the Unconverted Data page.
  3. If the storage pool contains ineligible files, you can obtain more information about the files by using the QUERY VOLUME and QUERY CONTENT commands. The server also issues messages about ineligible files during conversion.

These files are typically allowed to expire based on policy settings, but you can also move them to another primary storage pool by using the MOVE DATA command.

  4. If the storage pool contains damaged files, you can allow the files to expire based on policy settings, delete the files, or restore the files from a copy before clicking Retry Conversion.

For instructions about cleaning up damaged files, see Cleaning up objects in a source storage pool in the IBM® Storage Protect documentation.

Tip: If you allow files to expire based on policy settings, the storage pool will continue to show a Cleanup status until all data is expired and removed.

If a Cleanup status is shown for a storage pool that contains no data, you can delete the storage pool by using the DELETE STGPOOL command. Alternatively, you can move the storage pool to the Completed state by using the Retry Conversion action.

For more information about using IBM Storage Protect commands and managing storage pools, see the documentation.
