Configuring disk drives

A FILE (sequential-access disk) device class is required for disk drives.

Procedure

Configure disk drives by completing the following steps:

  1. Configure server-to-server communication.
  2. Define a device class of DEVTYPE=FILE and SHARED=YES.
IBM Storage Protect automatically defines a new FILE library and also defines drives corresponding to the mount limit for the FILE device class. The FILE library name is the same as the device class name. Each drive uses the library name with a numeric suffix. If the mount limit is changed, the number of drives also changes.

What to do next

Each session gets exclusive access to a file volume. To optimize performance, match the mount limit to the number of volumes.
