Managing clients

You can manage the clients that are registered to hub or spoke servers.

Procedure

On the Operations Center menu bar, click Clients.

Adding a client
When you add a client, the client is registered on an IBM® Storage Protect server. The server can then provide data protection services to the client.
Removing a client
Removing, or decommissioning, a client removes it from backup schedules and locks it to prevent access to the server.
Deactivating client data
Deactivating, or cleaning up, client data deactivates any backup data that was stored before the date and time that you specify. The data can no longer be retrieved, and will be deleted according to your storage management policies.
Backing up clients
The backup process copies data from clients to storage pools to protect against data-loss. You can schedule clients to be automatically backed up, or you can manually start a client backup process.
Replicating clients
Replication is the process of incrementally copying client data from one server to another to enable reliable failover and failback processing. A client's backup server can be configured to replicate data to a target server.
Scheduling client operations
You can schedule client operations, for example, to back up a client or to archive client data, so that the operations run automatically.
Changing client settings
You can change various client-related settings from the Operations Center, including general, data-management, and replication settings.
Scheduling client updates
Schedule the automatic installation of software updates for IBM Storage Protect backup-archive clients. This function is sometimes referred to as client deployment.
