Installing IBM Spectrum Protect by using console mode
You can install IBM Spectrum Protect by using the command line in console mode.
Before you begin
Take the following actions before you start the installation:
- Verify that the operating system is set to the language that you require. By default, the language of the operating system is the language of the installation wizard.
Ensure that the user ID that you plan to use during the installation is a
user with local Administrator authority.
Procedure
Install IBM Spectrum Protect by using this method:

What to do next
- If errors occur during the installation process,
the errors are recorded in log files that are stored in the IBM® Installation
Manager logs
directory, for example:
/var/ibm/InstallationManager/logs
/var/ibm/InstallationManager/logs
C:\ProgramData\IBM\Installation Manager\logs
- After you install the server and components, and before you customize it for your use, go to the IBM Support Portal. Click Downloads (fixes and PTFs) and apply any applicable fixes.
- After you install a new server, review Taking the first steps after you install IBM Spectrum Protect to learn about configuring your server.
- If a native device driver is available on Windows for the tape drives or
medium changers that you plan to use, use the native device driver. If a native device driver is not
available on Windows for the tape drives or medium changers that you plan to use, install the
IBM Spectrum Protect device driver by issuing the
dpinst.exe /acommand. Thedpinst.exefile is in the device driver directory. The default directory is C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\device\drivers.
