Multisite disk implementation of a data protection solution

The multisite disk solution is configured at two sites and uses data deduplication and replication.

Implementation roadmap

The following steps are required to set up a multisite disk environment.
  1. Set up the system.
    1. Configure the storage hardware and set up storage arrays for your environment size.
    2. Install the server operating system.
    3. Configure multipath I/O.
    4. Create the user ID for the server instance.
    5. Prepare file systems for IBM Spectrum Protect.
  2. Install the server and Operations Center.
  3. Configure the server and Operations Center.
    1. Complete the initial configuration of the server.
    2. Set server options.
    3. Configure Secure Sockets Layer for the server and client.
    4. Configure the Operations Center.
    5. Register your IBM Spectrum Protect license.
    6. Configure data deduplication.
    7. Define data retention rules for your business.
    8. Define server maintenance schedules.
    9. Define client schedules.
  4. Install and configure clients.
    1. Register and assign clients to schedules.
Tip: Avoid conflicts in managing administrative IDs and client option sets by identifying the IDs and option sets that will be replicated to the target server and the IDs and option sets that will be managed in an enterprise configuration. You cannot define an administrative user ID for a registered node if an administrative ID exists for the same node.
    2. Install and verify the client management service.
    3. Configure the Operations Center to use the client management service.
  5. Configure the second server.
    1. Configure for SSL communication between the hub and spoke server.
    2. Add the second server as a spoke.
    3. Enable replication.
  6. Complete the implementation.
