Context menu
Clicking the Options button opens a context menu for the selected data record of the storage system. The context menu options are not displayed for Unified storage systems.
The following menu items appear in that context menu:
View properties
It opens a right overlay pane with more details and properties of the system.
- System Properties pane: It displays some properties of the selected storage system, which
are not in the table. It displays the storage system name as the subheader and two primary action
buttons, Back and Save. The
Back button is always enabled, and closes the pane by discarding any changes
when clicked. The Save button is enabled only when you have made some changes
in the pane.
The storage system name is editable. The edit icon besides the name field allows to edit the storage system name. On clicking the Save button, on the bottom right of the pane, the name is updated and the change is reflected at all places where the name is displayed including the tables.
After the subheader, the pane displays the Health status, Events with counts, Alerts with count, and Data Collection state.
Note: Alerts are displayed only for IBM Storage Insights Pro licensed customers. After this section, which is separated by a horizontal separator, two collapsible sections are displayed – Properties and Status. Only one of these sections can be expanded at a time. By default, Properties section is expanded.
- Properties section: It displays the below properties in a 2-column layout:
-
IP address, Vendor, Type, Model, Firmware, Location, Timezone, Topology, Custom tags, and Capacity Limit.
-
Name, Location, Custom tags, and Capacity Limit are editable properties. So, an edit icon is displayed next to Location and Custom Tags field labels, clicking the edit icons, provides inline edit options, the fields become editable and user can edit values in the right pane itself.
- The Capacity Limit is displayed as a slider and you can change the values by moving the slider on the pane itself. If the Capacity Limit is not set manually, it is set to 100% by default. On hovering the slider, it displays a tooltip with a message that the capacity limit is not specified. When the capacity limit is not specified, it is considered as 100%.
-
- Status section: It displays the below properties in a 2-column layout:
-
Health Status Acknowledged, Current Power Usage, Power Efficiency, Temperature, Data Collection Type, Turbo Performance, and Assigned Data Collectors.
-
By default, the temperature is displayed in Celsius units. But, there is a link-based toggle in the label to switch the view between Celsius and Fahrenheit units.
-
Mark health as acknowledged
It acknowledges the system condition.
Add to general group
- Add to a new group: Select it to add the resources or groups to a new group and specify a name and description for the new group.
- Add to existing groups: Select it to add the resources or groups to one or more existing groups and click the appropriate groups in the list.
Data collection
It opens a pop-up that provides options to create tasks for data collection operations. The modern UI does not show the status of the tasks that are created from the overflow menu. To view the status of any task, navigate to the classic IBM Storage Insights view.
Users can select one of the following options from the Select a type of data collection drop-down:
- Stop data collection: When a user selects the Stop data collection option from the drop-down, the pop-up provides option to create a task to stop data collection for the storage system. Click Create a task to create a stop data collection task or Cancel to close the pop-up.
- Restart data collection: When a user selects the Restart data collection option from the drop-down, the pop-up provides option to create a task to restart data collection for the storage system. Click Create a task to create a restart data collection task or Cancel to close the pop-up.
- Stop probe: When a user selects the Stop probe option from the drop-down, the pop-up provides option to create a task to start probe for the storage system. Click Create a task to create a start probe data collection task or Cancel to close the pop-up.
- Stop performance monitor: When a user selects the Stop performance monitor option from the drop-down, the pop-up provides option to create a task to stop performance monitor for the storage system. Click Create a task to create a stop performance monitor task or Cancel to close the pop-up.
-
Schedule data collection: When a user selects the Schedule data collection option from the drop-down, the pop-up displays the Enable probe and Enable performance monitoring sections with checkboxes, which are selected by default. If a user deselects a checkbox, the respective section gets hide.
Under the Enable probe section, the Schedule probe can be selected as Automatic or Manual. The user can specify the frequency of the data collection from everyday to every 14 days from the drop-down. If a user selects the Manual option, the user can specify the data collection time and time zone in addition to data collection frequency.
For the Enable performance monitoring section, users can select a frequency between every 5 minutes to every 60 minutes. The exact values of frequency options that are the same as IBM Storage Insights classic view.
Click Schedule to schedule a task for data collection or Cancel to close the pop-up.
Connections
- Test connection: When a user selects the Test connection option from the drop-down, the pop-up provides option to create a test connection task. Users can click Create a task to create a test connection task or Cancel to close the pop-up. The modern UI does not show the status of the task. To view the status of the task, navigate to the classic IBM Storage Insights view.
- Modify connection: When a user selects the Modify
connection option, the pop-up provides option to modify the host connection of the
storage system. The pop-up allows users to modify the hostname or IP address, authentication method,
username, and password.
- Hostname or IP address: Specifies the hostname or IP address of the storage system host.
- Authentication: Specifies the authentication method of the connection.
The supported options are: Username and password and Secure Shell
(SSH). Based on the selected authentication method, the pop-up displays the
authentication parameters that the user needs to provide:
- Username and password: The user needs to provide the username and password for the connection.
- Secure Shell (SSH): The user needs to provide the SSH username and SSH password, upload the SSH key, and provide the passphrase for the uploaded SSH key file. The .txt, .pem, .crt, and .cert are the supported file formats for SSH key file.
- Cancel: It cancels the operation and closes the pop-up.
- Modify: It modifies the test connection if the provided authentication parameters are valid. The pop-up displays error messages if errors occur. If the connection is modified successfully, a confirmation message is displayed.
View real-time performance
It navigates you to the storage management website where you can view the real time performance of the block storage systems of your environment.
Export performance data
When a user clicks the option, the Export Performance Data pop-up opens. User can select the start and end date and time range in hours to export performance data of volumes. User can select 4, 8 or 12 hours time range to export data. For time range more than 12 hours, enable the Advance export option. For time range less than 12 hours, performance data for volumes is automatically exported to a file. To export volume performance data, select start and end time and click Export. Click Cancel to close the pop-up.

The ransomware threat detection details pane opens on the right side. You can enable or disable ransomware threat detection for the specific storage system. For more information, see Enabling and disabling alerts for ransomware threat detection.
Delete
When you select the storage system and click Delete, a confirmation dialog box is displayed. The grid is refreshed after the removal of the storage system and the entry is deleted from the table.
When multiple storage systems are selected, a blue banner appears at the top. It displays the number of selected storage systems and a Delete button. On clicking the Delete button, a confirmation dialog is displayed that confirms whether to proceed with the deletion or not.
Also, IBM Storage systems attached to STaaS environments cannot be removed as the option to remove it remains disabled.
