Upgrading IBM Storage Fusion HCI System

As an administrator user, upgrade components of IBM Storage Fusion HCI System from 2.5.2 to 2.6.1. The IBM Storage Fusion HCI System upgrade involves software and firmware.

About this task

  • Use this single rack upgrade procedure for a high-availability rack or expansion rack.
  • Metro-DR
    Upgrade Metro-DR in this sequence:
    1. Follow this procedure and upgrade site 1.
    2. Follow this procedure and upgrade site 2.
    3. Upgrade Tiebreaker. For the tiebreaker upgrade procedure, see Setting up the tiebreaker.
  • For any node drain issues, see Issues related to IBM Storage Fusion HCI System node drains.
  • The firmware version level for IBM Storage Fusion HCI System 2.6.1 is 2.6.
Important:
  • Follow the sequence mentioned in this procedure.
  • Service upgrades are mandatory after the IBM Storage Fusion HCI System software upgrades.

Procedure

  1. Upgrade IBM Storage Fusion HCI System management software. For the actual steps to upgrade, see Upgrading IBM Storage Fusion HCI System management software from 2.5.2 to 2.6.1.
  2. Upgrade the Global Data Platform (storage) service. For more information about upgrade, see Upgrading IBM Storage Fusion HCI System services.
  3. Upgrade the Backup & Restore (Legacy) service. For the actual steps to upgrade, see Upgrading IBM Storage Fusion HCI System services.
  4. Upgrade the Data Cataloging service. For the actual steps to upgrade, see Upgrading IBM Storage Fusion HCI System services.
  5. Upgrade the Backup & Restore service. For the actual steps to upgrade, see Upgrading IBM Storage Fusion HCI System services.
  6. Optionally, if you want to upgrade OpenShift Container Platform, see OpenShift Container Platform upgrade. For more information about Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, see product documentation Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
    Note: OpenShift Container Platform 4.12 is supported only on IBM Storage Fusion HCI System 2.6.1.

What to do next

  • For all the backup and restore jobs to be successful post upgrade, run the following commands to delete Kafka and Apache Zookeeper pods:
    
    oc delete pod baas-kafka-0 -n baas
    oc delete pod baas-zookeeper-0 -n baas
    oc delete pod baas-zookeeper-1 -n baas
    oc delete pod baas-zookeeper-2 -n baas

    After you run these commands, wait for the pods to restart.
