Backing up Data Cataloging manually

Follow the procedure to run a manual backup for IBM Spectrum® Discover.

Procedure

  1. Run the following command and export Data Cataloging namespace as environmental variable.
    export DC_NS="ibm-data-cataloging"
  2. Issue the following command to exec into the backup-restore pod:
    oc exec -n $DC_NS -it $(oc get pods -n spectrum-discover | grep backup-restore | awk '{print $1}') -- bash
  3. Run the script file python3 initialSetup.py to configure the directory where you can save the backup files. For more information, see Configuring Initial setup for deploying Data Cataloging on Red Hat OpenShift.
  4. Run the script file python3 backup.py
    Note:
    • Run the following command and export Data Cataloging namespace as environmental variable.
      export DC_NS="ibm-data-cataloging"
    • If the backup fails, the system remains in the maintenance mode for debugging or to run again. To move the system out of maintenance mode manually, you can issue the following command from an OpenShift® node:
oc patch SpectrumDiscover spectrumdiscover -n $DC_NS --type merge -p '{"spec":{"maintenance":"off"}}'
The command sets the maintenance flag in the IBM Spectrum Discover resource to off.

After a successful backup, the system will automatically revert to a running state.
