Logging in to IBM Storage Defender

To access IBM® Storage Defender®, you must sign in using the email address associated with your IBM Storage Defender group or user account. This email address must be registered with an IBMid or another supported identity provider.

Before you begin

You must log in to IBM Storage Defender by using the email address that is associated with your IBM Storage Defender group or user account. Your email address must be registered with an IBMid or another supported identity provider. If your email is not associated with an IBMid, you can create one now. For more information, see Creating an IBMid.
Note: The email address used for login does not necessarily need to be associated with an IBMid. Depending upon your organization's configuration, authentication may also occur through a managed identity provider.

When logging in to IBM Storage Defender for the first time with an IBMid user account, you must configure multifactor authentication (MFA) to enhance security. For user accounts with a non-IBMid identity provider, MFA policy is set by the identity provider.

Procedure

To log in to IBM Storage Defender, complete the following steps:
  1. Go to the following link: https://storage-defender.ibm.com
  2. On the Welcome page, enter your Email Address and click Log in.
  3. The next step depends on your login method:
    • First-time IBMid users, proceed to step 4, then continue with step 5.
    • Returning IBMid users - proceed directly to step 5.
    • If the email address entered does not exist in the IBM Storage Defender user directory, the user can still login as a group member of their managed identity provider. In this case, IBM Storage Defender prompts the user to enter their company name.

This name must match exactly, including case sensitivity, with the organization name defined by the main admin during account onboarding. If the name matches an existing account, IBM Storage Defender redirects the user to the appropriate managed identity provider, and login proceeds as expected. Proceed to step 6.

  4. If you are logging in to IBM Storage Defender for the first time, the IBM Security® Verify Welcome to multi-factor authentication enrollment page is displayed. To configure multifactor authentication, complete the following steps:
    1. Select a verification method from the available authentication options. You must configure at least one MFA verification method or device. Follow the prompts to enroll. For more information, see Configuring multifactor authentication.
    2. When your verification method enrollment is complete, the Enrollment successful page is displayed. Click Done or Add additional methods.
    3. After you configure at least one verification method in IBM Security Verify, continue logging in to IBM Storage Defender.
  5. To log in, complete the following steps:
    1. On the IBM Security Verify page, click Sign in with IBMid.
    2. Enter your IBMid and password, and then click Continue.
    3. Select a second authentication method from the available options and follow the browser prompts to authenticate.
  6. To log in with a managed identity provider, complete the following steps:
    1. Enter your Email and Password on the managed identity provider log in page, and then click Sign in.

What to do next

The IBM Storage Defender user interface provides a centralized platform to manage access, download audit logs, get help, review notifications, and manage user profiles. Additionally, you can navigate seamlessly to IBM Storage Defender Data Resiliency Service (Data Resiliency Service) and IBM Storage Defender Data Management Service (Data Management Service) from the interface. For more information, see IBM Storage Defender user interface.

To continue setting up authentication, configure group-based SSO access using your managed identity provider. Refer to Setting up SSO group authentication with managed identity providers for detailed steps. If you haven’t already configured SSO access, see Setting up SSO authentication with managed identity providers.
