Validating a recovery

When you validate a recovery, the recovery point is marked with the result. This information helps you when you want to use the recovery point for a recovery later.

The recovery validation process has two options:

Validation Test Recovery: The validation test recovery initiates the validation process as a part of a recovery test. This process does not change the resources of the recovery group. It marks the recovery point according to your selection, to help you in finding a valid recovery point in the future
Validate Recovery: The validate recovery initiates the validation process as a part of a recovery operation. In this process, the Data Resiliency Service considers the former resources as no longer usable and removes them from the recovery group. You can add the new resources that were created during the recovery to the recovery group after validation.

Note: Copy the resource information that is displayed as part of the validation process. The resource information is required to find the recovered resources in the vCenter for renaming or removal.

On the Data Resiliency Service home page, navigate to Groupings > Recovery groups .
On the Recovery groups page, click the recovery point of interest.
Tip: You can use the search bar to search for a specific time or filter the list for specific states of a recovery plan.
On the Protection tab, go to Protection > Recovery points.
Select the recovery point of interest with the status Awaiting validation, and click Validate in the overflow menu options. This action opens the Validate recovery dialog box.
On the Validate recovery dialog box, click Test Only.
On the Confirm recovery test result dialog box, confirm if recovery test result is valid or not valid by clicking Yes or No respectively.
Tip: Ensure that you copy the resource information.
After the validation is finished, the recovery point status is marked as either of the following:
- Valid, indicated by a green checkmark icon, and time stamp.
- Not valid
Note: The Data Resiliency Service cannot remove recovered resources from the vCenter unless it is from a Safeguarded Copy recovery. To remove the resources from the vCenter, see Clean up after a recovery.

Validation as a part of a recovery

To validate a recovery, complete the following steps:

On the Data Resiliency Service home page, navigate to Groupings > Recovery groups.
On the Recovery groups page, click the recovery point of interest.
Tip: You can use the search bar to search for a specific time or filter the list for specific states of a recovery plan.
On the Protection tab, go to Protection > Recovery points.
Select the recovery point of interest with the status Awaiting validation, and click Validate in the overflow menu options. This action opens the Validate recovery dialog box.
On the Validate recovery dialog box, click Recovery plan.
On the Confirm recovery result dialog box, confirm if recovery test result is valid or not valid by clicking Yes or No respectively.

After the validation is finished, the recovery point status is marked as either of the following:

- Not valid
Note: If you have defined that the recover point is valid, the original resources are removed from the recovery group. Optionally, you can rename the recovered resources in the vCenter that you used for the recovery. You can add the recovered resources to the same recovery group again.
